Colorado Trip Week 1 & 2

For the first 5 days in Colorado I spent all my time in Glenwood Springs training for the US freestyle team trials. Most Potomac locals have been on center chute wave, Glenwood is like center chute wave and a half as far as speed and size.

After that we headed down to Golden for a small competition that is part of the Golden Comunity rodeo. I placed 1st in juniors and 3rd highest overall score in the entire competition.

Then a few of my friends wanted to run a creek called South Boulder Creek. South Boulder is 7 miles of class 4 continous whitewater with 4 class 5s and one log portage. The first class 5 drop was called Moist Slot, it looked plenty easy but after seeing one of my friends swim right on top of a dangerous sieve i decided to walk it. The next big drop was a very sketchy V+ drop that looked kind of like Puke on the Upper Blackwater in WV. We decided to walk it. The third drop, called Bridge drop, was a bit manky in the middle and looked like it has a flipper hole right above the mank, I decided to walk that aswell. The Forth Drop was a 30 foot dam drop. The first guy styled it and everyone was pretty pumped to run it, then the secound guy runs it, gets worked in the hole and swims and Colorado whitewater does not stop, we chased the boat down about a mile until it got pinned. We did manage to get everything and no one was hurt, but no one ran the dam after that. A few more miles of boogie water and we were at the take out.

Next we went down to Beuna Vista for the BV Pro rodeo, first they put me in with the juniors because there wasnt enough c-1ers to make a class, then there wasnt enough juniors to make a class so they stuck us in with the mens pro. There were about 20 competitors and I managed to secure 10th place.

Now im back in glenwood training for the US freestyle team trials which is just in a few days, sorry for the lack of pictures, I will report back after team trials with the results.
Time to go Paddling!
